Srebrenica genocide keeps plaguing Dutch government

THE HAGUE – A party of about 150 Bosnian Muslim women were on hand at the Binnenhof recently to see their lawyers serve legal notice on the Dutch government. They claim that Dutch troops, serving under the U.N. command, failed to protect the male inhabitants of their town of Srebrenica from being murdered by Bosnian Serb troops. The civil suit holds Dutch authorities responsible because, it alleges, the Dutch peace keepers called off aerial strikes against the Bosnian Serbs which could have stopped the Serbs from taking the town. When the out-maneuvered, out-gunned and out-numbered Dutch could not protect the town, the invading Bosnian Serbs rounded up thousands of the Muslim men in Srebrenica. They were never seen alive again and the remains of many of the men continue to be discovered in mass-graves. Two of the women witnessed four lawyers serving papers on top Dutch bureaucrats. The other women demonstrated outside the Binnenhof. They want the Dutch to acknowledge their shortcomings in Bosnia and possibly pursue redress. The U.N. charter states that it is immune from such legal action.
