Website provincial photo bank posts 100,000th image

TILBURG – Putting archive catalogues on the Internet will not only help researchers but also make it much easier to locate relevant documents for genealogists and amateur historians. One such website has been dedicated as a Dutch provincial photo album which has caught the imagination of local history groups. The Film- en Fotobank Noord-Brabant recently posted its 100,000th photo, many taken in an era in which photography still was considered to be a non-essential expense for the average household. The University of Tilburg, the organizers of the web service are targeting an internet collection of 3 million photographs. The collection was started in Fall 2004 with 4,500 photographs from the provincial Brant Collectie.
