Making oliebollen gaining in popularity again

AMSTERDAM – Making your own oliebollen is regaining traction in the Netherlands, a recent survey has found. Last year, nearly one in five baked their own oliebollen, called Dutch donuts by some bakers in North America who put their hand to it on New Year’s Eve. The survey also revealed that 28 percent of the respondents were planning to make their own for New Year’s Eve 2008. The specialty market stall supplies 27 percent with the oil-dipped specialty, 12 percent relies on a bakery to do it for them, 6 percent picks them up from a supermarket. The remaining 12 percent likes them best when offered by third parties. A fully 85 percent agrees they will taste a couple of oliebollen, a statistic unchanged from the year before.
