C&A chain recognizes its Dutch roots with Sneek grant

SNEEK – Westphalian textile peddlers, termed lapjespoepen in popular Dutch parlance in the nineteenth century, so successfully built up a clientele among Dutch households that their ancestors still dominate clothing retail chains in the Netherlands today. Entrepreneurs Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer opened their first C&A store in Sneek in 1841. Now an international chain that includes other trade names, the Brenninkmeijers recently became the largest funder of Sneek’s new theatre building. One of the auditoriums in the building will be called C&A honouring the grant.
