ROERMOND – Attempts at the beatification of a Dutch nun who died in the U.S.A. in 1926 at the age of 28 have progressed to the next level now that the Roermond diocese has appointed a special court to judge the merit of the case. Apeldoorn-born Theresia Ysseldijk joined the Carmelite order in 1917. After her death, reports of miracles surfaced, which eventually led to the beatification process. The case had been stalled for some time while the diocese completed the beatification process of sister Maria Tauscher, a German-born nun who was beatified in 2006. Numerous Dutch and Flemish Roman Catholic clergy, brothers and sisters were sent out to labour in the U.S.A. in the nineteenth century and the early decades of the twentieth century.
