Farmer introduces open air boerenbowlen

DELFSTRAHUIZEN – Farmers are looking for new ways to earn extra income. Since bureaucrats introduced the concept of farmers serving as 'guards of nature' (in Dutch natuurwachten) to preserve the rural landscape and also to help city people appreciate nature more. Farmers are looking at various innovative ways of attracting tourists to their farms. Several farmers have introduced modified golfing and bowling games, as can be seen on page 5 where players are aiming at stand-up wooden shoe shaped pins at an open air lane between railway ties on a lawn. One of the participants is the Drisian champion of ‘boerenbowlen.’
