Dutch yearn for the guilder slowly declining

AMSTERDAM – The Dutch, a new report suggests, have gotten used to the euro as their currency. The yearning for the return of the guilder has subsided and the number of people who still convert current prices into guilders to gauge acceptable values has declined as well. The Gfk Euromonitor reports that four out of every five households are now comfortable with the euro, up from 70 percent in 2008, 66 percent in 2006 and 50 percent in 2004. The euro banknotes and coins were introduced on January 1, 2002, while the currency had been in use as a commercial vehicle since January 1, 1999. Since the Dutch travel widely in Europe, nearly everyone recognizes that the euro comes in very handy as a common currency. Estonia will join the EU’s euro zone on January 1, 2011, as its seventeenth member. The EU currently has 27 member nations.
