Dutch movie Oorlogswinter plays in U.S. theatres

LOS ANGELES - Over one hundred U.S. movie theatres are currently running the Dutch film Winter in Wartime (Oorlogswinter). The film ran initially at three movie facilities in New York and Los Angeles, netting over $16,000 in one weekend, considered good for a foreign language production. The interest of the public prompted Sony Classics to release director Martin Koolhoven’s film to a wider audience. Winter in Wartime starts with two boys playing at war, exploring the wreckage of a downed British fighter plane in the countryside, until they are chased away by Nazis. A Dutch film set in the Netherlands during World War II, Winter in Wartime is both a story of youthful adventure and one of adult seriousness. Oorlogswinter made the Oscar nomination’s shortlist in 2009 but failed to get nominated.
