HELMOND – One of numerous Dutch collectors, museum founder Jan Visser took in old tools and farm implements given him by area farmers. A museum bearing his name since 1983 maintains the collection and preserves rural and agricultural heritage from the area. The museum also has an eye for food and culinary traditions, best expressed through its thematic events such as bread baking days and serving stamppot (‘mash pot’ in which the potatoes are mashed with sauerkraut, carrots or kale). The museum is operated by local volunteers who turn periodically theme days into popular events of which stamppot dag is one.
