Weather interfered again with landing of paratroopers

EDE - Strong winds and heavy clouds hampered the recent commemorative Airborne droppings at the Ginkel heath near Ede, where in total of about 1,000 paratroopers jumped. Six parachutists sustained slight injuries. The landings were part of the commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. Thousands of onlookers, including 40 British veterans, watched the proceedings. After the drop of 500 paratroopers, a ceremony was held at the memorial. An additional 500 paratroopers were to jump immediately afterwards, but were delayed when poor weather conditions interfered. A few hours later the aircraft, including WWII vintage planes, reached the sky over the heath again to complete the drop. On September 18, 1944 nearly 2000 paratroopers jumped out of over 120 Allied aircraft, about 50 had been killed before landing and another 150 soldiers went missing.
