New York City pays major tribute to Dutch art and culture

‘5 Dutch Days 5 Boroughs’

NEW YORK - A first-ever five-day cultural event surrounding the annual Dutch-American Heritage Day is being billed as ‘endless opportunities to explore the past and present of Dutch arts and culture in New York City.’ Organizers have brought together a program of special tours, lectures, exhibits and performances across the city.

The ‘5 Dutch Days 5 Boroughs’ event is a celebration of the continuous influence of Dutch arts and culture in New York City, from the City's enterprising, multicultural origins as a Dutch colony to the pivotal role of contemporary Dutch artists and designers in today's international cultural scene.

This project brings together organizations from across the city, including museums, historic sites, preservation groups, and professional organizations, and Dutch-centred professional, genealogical and business groups.

Among the events are a bulb planting at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery, a walking tour of Old Nieuwe Amsterdam, a Brooklyn Dutch Heritage Bus Tour, an Genealogy Open House at the Holland Society of New York Library, the 24th Peter Stuyvesant Ball at the Grand Hyatt, an evening of Dutch short films at the Brooklyn Museum, and a historical worship service at the Old First Reformed Church.

Exhibitions include Van Gogh drawings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dutch Design at the Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology and ongoing events at the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, the Frick Collection, the Queens County Farm Museum.
