New website provides entry into all Frisian reference books

LEEUWARDEN - Reference books on Frisian cultural and literary history now can be accessed on a new website, www.wumkes.nl. The internet portal has been set up by the Fryske Akademy and the provincial archives Tresoar. Both institutes recently also signed an agreement to make all such sources more accessible and to generally promote Frisian language, culture and history. The Akademy and the archives already operate a genealogy website www.hisgis.nl. The new site is named after Dr. Wumkes, a one-time provincial archivist and author of a number of reference books.
