We Became Canadians
by Rains, Olga
In the immediate aftermath of World War II, a significant number of Canadian soldiers returned home to Canada to be followed by their brides, among whom were over a thousand Dutch women. The author - a warbride herself - and her war veteran husband Lloyd have worked for decades with these early post-WWII Dutch immigrants, offering them various kinds of support and giving them a voice in the wider Dutch Canadian community. While working with these warbrides, the author interviewed many of them and selected some of the stores for this very interesting book. Many of these stories are heart-breaking, others are more pleasant, but all are worthwhile to read. Self-produced by author, the binding of the book is weak so please handle it with care.
